The only negatives I have experienced are sometimes on weekends it can be noisy due to groups of campers usually drinking and partying and you must beware of rattlesnakes. There are multiple campgrounds that are maintained year around with rough camping to RV camping to tent camping. It is a deep lake so great for trolling and has a year around striped bass population with a limit of 10 per day. This lake is known for water skiing, fishing, pontoon boating, jet skiing, bank fishing and swimming. There are boat ramps for easy in and out but call first because depending on weather conditions sometimes the ramps are moved or closed due to drought or flooding. It is conveniently located between 2 other lakes (New Melones and Comanche) and not too off the beaten path for city dwellers. New Hogan Lake is a great place for a weekend camping trip with the kids, a week long fishing trip or even a two week fishing trip.
